Variable Data Printing

Connect with individual customers on a personal level with variable data printing services from Keycard Holders.

Variable data printing (sometimes shortened to VDP) allows you to create uniquely detailed key card holders within a single print run. You can personalise every key holder with a different message, image, address, QR code etc.

VDP is ideal for hotel chains with different locations.

How does variable data printing work?

In variable data printing we start with a base layer artwork design. This will be the same for ever key card holder / gift card holder in your print run. Then we have a set of individual data (the aspects that will be unique to a specific card holder). Using digital print software the base layer and the individual data are printed simultaneously onto each key card holder in the print run.

This means there’s no need to manually create multiple variations of your artwork – it’s all done for you!

What do I need to set up a VDP print run?

Not much! All you need is a base artwork design file (with all the design elements which will remain the same across every single key card holder) and a spreadsheet document which is saved as a CSV file – complete with listings for all the unique data you want on your holder designs.

Can I print unique images on each item?

Yes – just make sure you add your images file names in your database and send a folder with all your image files to us, alongside your base artwork and database.
If you have any trouble, our experts are always happy to help – just get in touch.

How can I specify how VDP elements are arranged on my print design?

Simply leave note with your order at the checkout. Alternatively, if you’re using InDesign Photoshop / Illustrator, add placeholder text or graphics on a separate layer to the rest of your design to provide instructions.

Either way, we’ll send you a digital proof of your design which will indicate where the VDP elements are placed and how they’ll look on your final printed design. If you need to adjust the design before going to print, simply let us know!
